Dearest Friends of Our Eucharistic Lord,

I have been engaged in the apostolate of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration for over fifteen years and I believe today, as much as when I began, that it is the means by which our parishes, our dioceses, and even our whole nation will be renewed.

Some years ago, the Rev. Fr. Lorenzo Guerrero, S.J., had a dream of the Philippines seen at night from far above the earth. The view was magnificent, with tiny lights in the center of little hearts lighting up the entire archipelago. He was told in the dream that these lights represented the grace flowing from the one thousand chapels of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration that the Blessed Mother desires for our nation.

Since then I have joyfully witnessed the opening of many adoration chapels. In recent years, however, I have sadly witnessed many chapels wherein Jesus is exposed for us in the Blessed Sacrament but is left completely alone, often for many hours! Not surprisingly, this has led to many desecrations. Because of the many problems, the Cardinal asked me to compile a report on the current state of PEA in the Archdiocese and to propose how we should address the situation.

The findings were discouraging but, because I know that the nature of God is such that He can take something bad and change it into something good, I trusted that in this crisis there was an opportunity for renewal and I prayed that the Lord would show me the way. Around that time Deacon Barth E. Bracy, who was then still a lay man, visited from New York and told me that he would like to stay to help me promote PEA here in the Philippines. For many reasons I knew that he was sent in answer to my prayers.

The League of Eucharistic Guardians is the means by which we will renew PEA here in the Archdiocese of Manila and throughout the Philippines. This manual provides the blueprint. It is absolutely essential for everyone involved in PEA to study this booklet and implement this program in their parishes... NOW!

I thank Deacon Barth for his work in compiling this program and for his willingness to serve as Moderator and National Promoter for the League of Eucharistic Guardians. I encourage you to take advantage of his eagerness to visit your parish and help you renew your PEA program through this process of evangelization and organization.

I also thank the Rev. Fr. Genaro O. Diwa, S.L.L., for ensuring the program's fidelity to liturgical norms, and the Rev. Fr. Florencio Testera, O.P., J.C.D., for verifying its compliance with Canon Law. Lastly, I thank His Eminence, Jaime Cardinal L. Sin D.D., for his gracious support, encouragement and prayers for our efforts.

My prayer now is that you, dearest Reader, will contact us and work with us to introduce this program in your parish so that PEA will continue and grow according to the Will of the Father and in fulfillment of the Blessed Mother's desires.

The Rev. Msgr. Josefino S. Ramirez, H.P., was ordained on the 28^th of November, 1970, by His Holiness, Pope Paul VI. He currently serves as Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Manila, Rector of the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene (Quiapo Church), and Spiritual Advisor of the League of Eucharistic Guardians. He has been involved with the apostolate of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration since 1986 when he was appointed as the first Executive Director for PEA Philippines, and co-authored, together with the Rev. Fr. Vincent Martin Lucia, the book Letters to a Brother Priest.
