I have said it before and will say again that Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration is the hope and consolation of my pastoral ministry.

In the past few years, however, our experience of PEA in Manila has reminded me of an old American phrase: "You don't have a leg to stand on." It is with a sad heart that I have to suppress so many chapels of adoration due to desecrations resulting from Jesus being left alone while exposed for us in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

With publication of this booklet I believe that, now, we do have a L.E.G. to stand on! I welcome, with exuberant joy, the founding of the League of Eucharistic Guardians of the Philippines and this manual that outlines a simple, structured and effective program for maintaining Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in a parish.

My desire and fervent prayer is that every parish throughout the Archdiocese, and even the whole country, will adopt this program so that we may have a national renewal of Eucharistic devotion and implore the Mercy of God upon our land.

MESSAGE

It is with joy that I welcome the founding of the League of Eucharistic Guardians and the publication of this Manual that outlines the organization and maintenance of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in parishes throughout the country.

Your promulgation of the practice of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration is a positive step towards spiritual and moral transformation and renewal. This manual will provide comfort to our brothers and sisters in need of spiritual strength and guidance, and strength to our leaders.

The government welcomes such initiatives from groups like the League of Eucharistic Guardians. Your partnership with the government will be a powerful force reinforcing our goal of good governance, sound moral foundation and the elevation of moral standards in government and society.

I am one with you in the belief that it is only with God's grace and guidance that we can succeed in our quest for peace, unity and prosperity for our country.

Let us pray for a National Moral Recovery and renewal of hearts!

MESSAGE

By the grace of God I have been given many opportunities to serve both God and country. In my current position as Presidential Assistant for Religious Affairs and in my previous position as President of the Council for the Laity of the Philippines, I have striven to center my efforts on the Person of Christ.

President Arroyo's call for a National Moral Recovery ultimately requires a moral conversion of the individuals and leaders that constitute the nation. Morality is based not only upon Scripture and Church teachings but, more fundamentally, upon the very Person of Christ Who, Himself, is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Similarly in the Church - the Bride of Christ - all reform, renewal and, in fact, any fruitful apostolate depends upon the level of union we share with Jesus, our Divine Spouse.

The means by which we center our lives on Jesus, and enter into union with Him, is the Eucharist. This is why Our Lord gave the parable of the Vine and the branches during the Last Supper as He instituted the New Covenant of His Body and Blood. And, this is why I am very happy about the founding of the League of Eucharistic Guardians of the Philippines and the printing of their manual that provides a program whereby parishes nationwide can and should maintain their adoration program.

It is difficult for me to even imagine the fruits that will come from the deep level of union with Christ that our brothers and sisters will enjoy as a result of their time spent with Him in the Blessed Sacrament. Let us all, Christ's Lay Faithful and citizens of the Republic, join this effort!

MESSAGE

While studying Mariology to write my book, Mankind's Final Destiny, one truth struck me again and again, that Our Blessed Mother always leads us to Jesus. Her orientation towards the historical person of Christ is evident in Scripture. Her apparitions, likewise, reveal her orientation towards Christ in His Church and in His sacraments, most especially in the Sacrament of His Real Presence.

As usual, the Holy Father said it best. While I was in Rome serving as Philippine Ambassador to the Vatican, Pope John Paul II released his landmark Marian encyclical, explaining that: "The piety of the Christian faithful has always very rightly sensed a profound link between devotion to the Blessed Virgin and worship of the Eucharist... Mary guides the faithful to the Eucharist!" (Redemptoris Mater, Art. 44).

As one of Mary's children, I am happy to hear of the League of Eucharistic Guardians of the Philippines. I was especially moved by their new organizational manual that begins with a dedication to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Philippines and Missionary of the Blessed Sacrament, and ends with a prayer to Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament. I think Mama Mary must be very happy when we recognize her with these titles, but I know that she will be even happier when all of us, her little children, follow her example, heed her admonitions, and fulfill her desire by raising up her Son in love and glory through Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration!

I pray that the lay faithful, especially the Marian devotees, will redouble their efforts at Eucharistic Evangelization leading to perpetual adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. This new program of the League of Eucharistic Guardians shows us exactly what must be done and how to do it. As Our Lady said to Juan Diego, "What more do you need?"

MESSAGE

People who know me know that I am invited to give a lot of talks. Often, people give lengthy introductions regarding my past as a hero of the EDSA Revolution, or my expertise in Marian apparitions, or sometimes even my celebrity status. One time, while visiting a local seminary, I was introduced by one of my friends who simply stood up, smiled and said, "I am happy to introduce to you my good friend June."

During a recent holy hour before the Blessed Sacrament, the thought occurred to me that, someday, I will be introduced before the throne of God for my final judgment. How wonderful it would be if, on that day, Jesus were to simply stand up, smile, and proclaim to the Father, "I am happy to introduce to you my good friend June."

Yet this is precisely the opportunity given to us in the Blessed Sacrament, where Jesus waits for us with open arms and invites us to enter into a deep and personal friendship with Himself. Friendship comes about and is manifested by the time that friends enjoy together. Our weekly holy hour is the time we spend with our Best Friend! And each moment we spend with Him on earth will forever deepen our union with Him in heaven.

This is why I am joining the League of Eucharistic Guardians of the Philippines. I hope not only to become a Guardian, but also to begin a Chapter of the League in my parish. Having experienced the infinite love that Jesus has for me in the Blessed Sacrament, I would count myself BLESSED to be known as nothing other than a friend of Jesus, a friend of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

I hope that all of you will also join the League of Eucharistic Guardians and start a Chapter in your parish. Perhaps someday, our entire nation will be known by our friendship with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Now that would be a true revolution!
