To assure your parish priest that Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration (PEA) will work, it may be necessary to form a Core Group that will meet with him to express their desire to establish PEA as well as their commitment to maintain the program once it begins. The Coordinator, Division Leaders and Captains who will eventually be needed (Section 3: Organization) will normally be chosen from this initial Core Group. To recruit individuals for the Core Group, the following steps may be taken.
As you begin to develop the Core Group, you should hold regular meetings to coordinate your efforts and to make necessary preparations. The members of your Core Group should begin spending at least one hour each week with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, together or individually, to receive the grace He desires to give you that your efforts may succeed. Should you encounter any difficulties or questions, please contact the Diocesan Promoter (if there is one) or this apostolate.
St. Paul says that faith comes through hearing. The following talks should be given, during a continuous four week period, at all of the Sunday Masses, including any Saturday evening anticipated Masses. The first three should be read after Holy Communion by a member of your Core Group and, additionally, may be incorporated into the homily given by the priest or deacon. The Invitation Sunday talk should be given by the Diocesan Promoter (if there is one) or another experienced evangelist referred by this apostolate.
TWELVE BIBLICAL REASONS FOR WANTING TO SPEND ONE HOUR EACH WEEK WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
This tract should be read after Holy Communion. The homilist may also incorporate these reasons into a homily about the Bible being, essentially, a witness to Christ; the same yesterday, today and always - truly, bodily and personally Present in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
TWELVE REASONS FROM THE CHURCH FOR WANTING TO SPEND ONE HOUR EACH WEEK WITH JESUS IN THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
This tract should be read after Holy Communion. The homilist may also incorporate the reasons into a brief catechesis about the Eucharistic Mystery using John Paul the Great's three-fold framework - Sacrifice, Communion, Presence - and that to truly live the Eucharistic Mystery, which is the essence of Christian life, we must live all three parts of this inseparable Mystery.
THE VALUE OF SACRIFICE
This is a long tract which can not be read in its entirety after Holy Communion. The reader should choose what he/she feels to be the most compelling of the twenty-four sections. The homilist may also incorporate these reasons into his homily.
INVITATION SUNDAY
Preparations for Invitation Sunday - invitations, pencils, volunteers to hand out the invitations and assist at designated stations after Mass, orientation meetings, et cetera - should be made with the Diocesan Promoter or with this apostolate. A sample of an Invitation Sunday talk can be provided for review by the parish priest. It is, however, strongly recommended that this talk be given only by one who has been specifically trained for this task.
While it is not absolutely necessary to give the first three talks, it has been consistently found that, regarding this Eucharistic Evangelization, four weeks is better than two weeks and two weeks is better than one week. The Invitation Sunday talk is indispensable.
The tracts upon which the first three talks are based may also be distributed, one tract each week, to each person attending Holy Mass. This enables each parishioner to reflect upon the message at home and better appreciate the importance of participating. The tracts can be photocopied or ordered from this apostolate.
Continuing evangelization seeks to accomplish three things that, together, will guarantee the continued success of PEA:
The Feasts of Corpus Christi & Christ the King present excellent opportunities for the Coordinator to arrange (twice per year) follow-up Invitation Sundays. The parish priest can preach about the Real Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and the Coordinator can prepare a table where, after Mass, new parishioners and nonparticipants can join the PEA program. Brief talks can be provided by this apostolate to be given by the Coordinator, or another Guardian, after Holy Communion at all the Masses for the weekend.
Informational & Inspirational books and pamphlets should be available in the adoration chapel as spiritual reading for Guardians and visitors during their holy hours. Audio-video materials may be circulated amongst the Guardians and throughout the parish. You can use the same materials ordered during the pre-evangelization process and order new materials as you desire.
The Fishers of Men, a house to house lay evangelization program discussed in PART IV of this PEA Kit, should be implemented in your parish after the establishment of PEA. This is a highly effective program wherein teams of Guardians go out to the highways and byways to invite all of our brothers and sisters to visit Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament and to participate in the PEA program.
Finally, retreats can be held from time to time in your parish to revitalize your Chapter and recruit new Guardians.
