'Jesus took Peter, James, and John
and led them up a high mountain.
He was transfigured before their eyes.
Peter said, Lord, how good it is for us to be here!'163
The Pope says:
"On Mount Tabor, it was Jesus
Who was transfigured.
When we come into the Presence
of the Blessed Sacrament, it is we
who are spiritually transfigured by Jesus."
"His Sacred Heart
gives us everything
in this Most Blessed Sacrament.
The Lord shows us His Heart
and His glorious wounds,
an inexhaustible source of love."
'By His wounds, we are healed.'164
"The glorious wounds of Christ
are spiritual fountains
through which God sanctifies
hearts, people, communities, nations,
and the whole cosmos."
The glorious wounds
of the Risen Christ
speak to each of us
as they represent
the five spiritual graces
everyone receives
in each holy hour of prayer.
1. Sanctification
"The Second Vatican Council
is a universal call to holiness.
Holiness is union with Christ."
"The most efficacious way of growing in holiness
is to spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament."
Just as one can't go outside
while it is raining hard
without getting wet,
neither can we come into
the Presence of Jesus
without getting holy.
'God made Him Who did not know sin
to become sin'165 on the Cross,
so that when we come before Him
in the Blessed Sacrament,
'we might become the very holiness of God.'166
On the Cross,
He was abandoned in darkness
that in His Presence
we are bathed in radiant light;
He was regarded
as evil and became sin
that in His Presence
we are made holy;
He was pierced in the Heart
that in His Precious Blood
we are made innocent;
He was seen as a total failure
that covered with His infinite merits
we become a divine success;
He died in shame and disgrace
that forever we are clothed in glory;
He was looked upon by all
with bitter hatred
that all who look upon Him
exposed in the Blessed Sacrament
are filled with the sweetness of Divine Love.
'Lord, how good it is for us to be here.'
2. Reparation
The Pope said, "The newly Blessed
Bishop Manuel Gonzales
speaks to our times."
"He made known
that Christ was often left alone
and abandoned in the tabernacle."
'No prophet is without honor,
except in His native place,
indeed in His own house.'167
"The saintly Bishop would say:
'He is here! Here is Jesus!
Do not abandon Him'."
"It would be sad if after so long
the Savior's loving Presence
were still unknown
to humanity."
'He came unto His own, and yet,
His own received Him not.'168
'He could work no miracle there,
so much did their lack of faith distress Him.'169
'He wept and said,
If only you had known
the path to peace this day,
but you have completely
lost it from view...
because you failed to recognize
the time of your visitation.'170
'How often have I yearned
to gather your children
as a mother her young,
but you refused Me.'171
"Each holy hour
consoles the Heart of Jesus
for those who refuse to come to Him
and wins the grace for the whole human race
to come to Him in the Blessed Sacrament."
"Adoration is a great act of giving
that makes reparation
for all the evils of the world."
"It is the path to peace
because adoration recognizes
the time of our visitation,
Christ's Presence among us."
"The world must not be deprived
of the gentle and liberating Presence
of Christ living in the Eucharist."
'He has made Himself poor'172
in this Sacrament
'though He was rich,
so that you might become rich
by His poverty.'173
"Come let us adore Him
where the heart truly falls
in love with Jesus.
For in the Eucharist
we find the invisible Face of Christ
emptying Himself of glory in this Sacrament,
in order to clothe us with His Divine Glory
when we come into His Presence."
3. Transformation
"Each moment we spend in His Presence
deepens our union with Christ.
This union is a transforming union
for man is a being called to glory,
as 'all of us gazing on the Lord'174
in the Blessed Sacrament
'are being transformed
from glory to glory
and are being made into the very image
and likeness of God, Himself.'175
At the Transfiguration,
'His face became as dazzling as the sun.'176
Before the Blessed Sacrament,
our souls become as radiant as the sun.
Just as one can't be exposed to the sun
without receiving its rays,
neither can one come
into the Presence of the Son of God
without being transformed by His glorious rays.
The Blessed Sacrament is Jesus our Risen Savior
with all the beauty and glory of His Resurrection
flowing out to those who come
into His Divine Presence.
Each moment spent in His Presence
makes our souls everlastingly
more glorious and beautiful in Heaven.
'For he who humbles himself,' before the Lord,
'shall be exalted'177 'and will shine
like the sun in the Father's Kingdom.'178
This is why, says the Pope,
"the Blessed Sacrament confers
incomparable dignity upon the Christian people."
'How good it is for us to be here!'
'I will enter Your House'179
'where You change my mourning into dancing'180
because here in the Blessed Sacrament,
'You have stooped to make me great.'181
4. Salvation
The Pope says, "The Eucharistic Mystery
is the source, the center, and the summit
of the Church's spiritual and charitable activity."
"Those who stand before the Lord
are presenting to Christ all of those
who do not know Him or are far from Him.
They keep watch in His Presence
on their behalf winning the grace
for their conversion and salvation."
A biblical basis
for one person's faith
winning salvation for another
is found in the passage where some people
presented a paralytic to Jesus.182
'When Jesus saw their faith,'
referring to the people who brought the man to Jesus,
He said, 'My son, your sins are forgiven.'183
When Jesus sees your faith
in coming to Him in the Blessed Sacrament,
He pours out His Precious Blood
upon the one in the world
in most need of His Mercy
and forgives this person
as He did the paralytic.
'Are you envious because I am generous?'184
'The Lord... shows generous patience,
since He wants none to perish,
but all to come to repentance.'185
The Pope says,
"Christ can change the human heart
and work a miraculous catch
when we least imagine."
Let us 'put out into the deep'186
by trusting in Jesus' Presence.
The grace of a holy hour
is like a spiritual net
cast over the sea of humanity
to pull a lost soul
right back into the arms of Christ
causing Heaven to rejoice,
and Christ to say to this soul,
'This day you shall be with Me in Paradise.'187
5. Restoration
God promises, 'I will bring about
the restoration of My people.'188
The Pope explains how:
"The Heart of Christ. What power!"
"Through the Mystery of this Wounded Heart,
the restorative tide of God's merciful love
continues to spread over the whole world."
"In the Eucharist,
the same Jesus of the Gospel
remains with us,
Whose wounds Thomas touched."
"Like Thomas, the Church bows down
in adoration before the Risen One
and never ceases to exclaim,
'My Lord and My God.'189
The Church is constantly invited by Christ
to touch His wounds."
Like the woman in the Gospel
who touched Jesus with her faith,190
we touch the Risen Lord with our faith
in Him in the Blessed Sacrament.
'If I just touch His clothing,'191 she said.
'Who touched Me? Someone touched Me.
I know that power
has gone forth from Me.'192
Jesus was conscious at once
that healing power
had gone out from Him,
and He said to the woman,
'It is your faith that has cured you'.'193
'All who touched Him got well.'194
'All who had afflictions
kept pushing toward Him to touch Him.'195
'Indeed, the whole crowd
was trying to touch Him
because power went out from Him,
which cured all.'196
This power described in Scripture
is the very same power
of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
By just coming into His Presence
in the Blessed Sacrament,
like the woman
who just touched His clothing,
we touch Jesus with our faith.
This releases His power and healing love
upon ourselves and the world.
'If the prophet had told you
to do something extraordinary
would you not have done it?'
Naaman, the leper, was asked.'197
'His flesh became again
like the flesh of a little child,
and he was made clean'198
when he did the one,
simple thing requested of him.
The world today
with all its corruption and injustice
may be likened to the condition
of the poor leper who said,
'If You will to do so, You can cure me.'199
Jesus' answer to the leper
is His answer to the world,
'I do will it. Be cured.'200
On the Cross, Jesus was jeered
by those who did not believe He was God,
as seemingly He looked so helpless
and was doing nothing to save Himself.
Yet He was doing everything,
because He was saving the whole human race
through His perfect Sacrifice of love.
Again Jesus looks helpless
in the Blessed Sacrament.
Yet it is from there that the power of the Cross
flows out to the world.
'The power that has conquered the world
is this faith of ours.'201
Like the centurion who said it was not necessary
for Jesus to go to his house,
'Just say the word,
and my servant will be cured,'202
we are called to have faith in the power
of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
'Are you confident I can do this?'203 Jesus asks.
Right there from where He is
in the Blessed Sacrament,
Jesus can do everything and accomplish all things.
When asked, 'If out of the kindness of Your Heart
You can do anything to help us, please do.'204
Jesus said, 'If you can?
Everything is possible to a man who trusts.'205
To trust in the all-powerful love
of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament
is what we are called to.
He says, 'Fear is useless.
What is needed is trust.'206
Jesus can, and yes, Jesus will
heal our nation, and yes, yes,
He will heal the whole world.
The Pope says, "It is better to be silent and to adore,
humbly trusting in the marvels of grace."
"Anyone who prays to the Savior
draws the whole world
and everybody in the world
closer to Christ Who 'lives to intercede for all.'207 "
'So let us confidently approach
the throne of grace
to receive mercy and favor'208
as in the Blessed Sacrament
'we draw near to God Himself'209
and 'to a Blood which pleads
more eloquently than that of Abel.'210
'How good it is for us to be here!'
'I tell you solemnly,
when all is made new,
and the Son of Man sits
on His throne of glory,
you will be repaid.'211
For 'eye has not seen, ear has not heard,
nor has it so much as dawned on man
what God has prepared
for those who love Him.'212
